Guiding Principles

Empowering residents of the Crowsnest Pass through active participation and representation.
Transparent Leadership

Committed to open communication and accountability in local governance for all residents.

This starts with making the Council Meetings and all Committee and Commission Meetings available on live streaming media with the recordings posted, either on our Municipal website or on YouTube or similar. With respect for budgetary constraints this may not meet world-class media standards at first but even a preliminary, low cost solution will get the information out for sharing.

Your Voice Matters

Join me in shaping our community's future with your ideas and concerns.

Every time we meet. Every time you want to send an email. Every Council Meeting, if you want.

If you have to raise an issue twice I haven't responded adequately. I may not be able to resolve the issue immediately, or even to your liking, but you deserve to be fully involved and heard in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What did your campaign focus on?

My campaign focuses on community engagement in the development plans for the Crowsnest Pass.

I recognize we are experiencing a period of extreme pressure for rapid residential expansion fueled by the province-wide housing shortage and encouraged locally for the increased tax base. The flip side of this bonanza is how it shapes our community now and in the future. If allowed to be driven by developers the main product will be that of the highest profit yield, not necessarily one of the highest community benefit. Can anybody say "Canmore"?

We need to update the development process with first re-defining the community needs through extensive public participation, then updating the development plans and land use zoning in place to allow soliciting competitive bids from reputable developers within that framework. In other words, we will decide what we want and need then invite qualified developers in to compete for the right to participate in the building of OUR community, for OUR benefit.

Development can't be based solely on residential expansion alone though. Equal, or even higher, attention must be placed on economic development of a diversified industrial/technical base. This challenge will only be met with innovative thinking "outside the box". As a relatively isolated community we originally relied on the bounty of natural resource extraction of lumber, natural gas and coal and the opportunities for responsible development at Grassy Mountain are welcome. That era is nearing its end though. We need to develop industries that function in the developing fields of information, tourism and recreation, eco-system support and regenerative technologies.

Going back to this core concept of community engagement in development plans I fully believe our most successful future on all expansion fronts will be achieved when we encourage, support and facilitate participation of our residents in the plan making.

What are your main goals?

My vision includes preserving the natural environment and wildlife while co-existing with it, promoting the success of local businesses while expanding into new generations of information technology, developing local food independence while improving food and services to the community and ensuring transparent governance.

How can I contact you?

You can contact me through this website, email at djohnson@TeamCNP.com or Facebook.

What is your vision?

My vision is to create a vibrant, inclusive community where every resident feels heard and valued in local governance.

My main goal is to update all our policies, procedures and bylaws to where they provide a framework for our community to thrive. I do not know at this time what that all entails but am confident that the community does and will drive the process once its voice in the process is restored and respected.

I also want to express through service to the community my extreme gratitude for the life of peace, awe and friendship I was graciously offered in my new life here.
